Haute hat maker Albertus Swanepoel has put his lid on the fashion world, from winning runner-up at the 2008 Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund competition to topping off an Alexander Wang runway show. Through his recent collaboration with BENCH, the milliner adds another feather to his cap.
The collab launched in November 6 alongside an exhibition of Swanepoel’s iconic hats. Through a 14-piece collection, the designer celebrates the festive spirit and sporting life of his native South Africa, also reflecting the vibrancy in Filipino culture.
From a straw porkpie hat bound at the brim by an ethnic stripe to neon tribal print on caps, the collection is striking and spirited, sounding the drumbeat of Africa and the Philippines. At the launch, B/BLOG caught a few friends of BENCH including Richard Gomez and designer Joey Samson punctuating their personal style with pieces from the collection.
Hats off to BENCH and Albertus Swanepoel for putting headwear on our minds again!
