Raffy Teraoka Dacones was living what many millennials would consider a dream: pinballing around Tokyo as an interior designer. Amid furnishing the homes of strangers, however, the twentysomething yearned for another sense of home. Last year, he returned to his mom Annabelle’s homeland and with his parents, three brothers, and three sisters, helps run the family’s farm in Pangasinan.

A three-hour drive from Manila, the Teraoka Family Farm stands proudly amid vast grasslands and hike-worthy hills. Each of the family members is responsible for an aspect of the farm, which sprouts prized produce that spans kale and mangoes—all 100 percent organic.

Since coming home, Raffy has gotten a real feel for the land. Plant health relies on its caretaker’s attitude, so you’ll find him chatting up Teraoka’s produce every so often. While spending a day on the farm, BENCH BLOG captures Raffy rearing greens good enough to sell while documenting something much more valuable: a man who’s never forgotten his roots.
