A day around Manila with our newest #GlobalBenchsetter.
It’s 11 a.m. on a relatively quiet Saturday morning in BGC. Brooklyn Beckham, the newest addition to the growing family of #GlobalBenchsetters, arrives in one of the event spaces at Shangri-La at the Fort, on-the-dot with little fanfare. For someone with a very famous last name, Brooklyn doesn’t seem to be too far up in the sky. He answers questions one-on-one with members of the press and gamely poses for a few photos. When it’s time to break for lunch, he chooses a local salad place a block away from the hotel.
It’s going to be quite the day for Brooklyn. Having only arrived the day before, he’s set to go on a mini book tour around Manila, signing copies of his photo book What I See at SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, and the newly-opened BENCH/ BGC flagship store in Bonifacio High Street. The schedule is pretty demanding, too: there’s very little time in between stops. But, as his manager mentioned during the interviews—and we’ll see this during the day—Brooklyn is one hell of a trooper.
When he arrives at SM Megamall, he is greeted by hundreds of screaming fans. He waves in return, and promptly gets to signing books and posing for photos with fans. He’s not fussy at all, and after he’s signed the last book, he comes down from the stage and takes a group photo with all his fans. This all happens non-stop for about two hours, and will happen again at SM Mall of Asia. Phew.
When he arrives at the last stop for the day, the BENCH/ BGC flagship store, he joins Mr. Ben Chan, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano, OG BENCH/ couple Richard Gomez and Lucy Gomez, Ms. Rowena Tomeldan, Ms. Nenila Lim, and Mr. Virgilio Lim to cut the ribbon and officially open the store. Following that, Brooklyn is whisked away to immediately sign more books, but his energy has not dipped one bit. He gamely poses for photos with other celebrities and influencers, and tries out the BENCH/ Design Studio in the store. When he has a free moment, he even takes a selfie with a photo of fellow Global Benchsetter Cole Sprouse.
The evening ends with a sneak peek at the soon-to-open BENCH/ Café at the second floor. Brooklyn toasts with Mr. Chan and enjoys an intimate dinner with the BENCH/ family. Before he heads back to his hotel to rest, Brooklyn comes out and takes even more selfies with his fans. His manager wasn’t wrong at all.
