The hottest days of summer aren’t called “dog days” for nothing. While the swaggering sun can chase the average Joe indoors, there’s a type of man that can beat the heat by making the most of it, especially with his furry friend at his side.

On a recent stroll through Ayala Triangle, B/BLOG discovered a bunch of fine male specimens and the pooches that love them. Whether it’s playing fetch or grabbing a cone, these dudes find many a reason to enjoy the season with their dogs in tow. The body-grilling weather aside, the sight of such adorable companionship certainly gets us in heat.

BEN WINTLE

Entrepreneur

Canine Companion: Hugo, Norwich Terrier

Hey, Ben! What have you been busy with lately?

My startup launched a restaurant phonebook app called Booky Manila that works offline. Please download it!

How do you and Hugo hang out most of the time?

We love climbing mountains, running on the beach, or watching rugby on TV.

If your dog could talk, how would it describe its human?

Weird, fun, sometimes boring.

If you could teach your dog anything, what would it be?

Would be cool if he could fetch me snacks from the fridge!

How do you and Tony hang out most of the time?

We watch movies in my room, though he usually sleeps. We also have our typical walks but then I’m the one who usually gets tired and not him.

If you could teach your dog anything, what would it be?

I want him to learn how to hug! Like when I’m lonely or sad, I want him to know it and he’ll hug me! (Laughs)

If your dog could talk, how would it describe its human?

Definitely his ultimate best friend who spoils him!

If you could teach him anything, what would it be?

How to spot me at the gym.

“My human is the Han Solo to my Chewbacca.”

Hey, Javy! What have you been busy with lately?

I currently work in the finance industry, but juggle climbing mountains and exploring new places any chance I get! Sometimes, Tika comes along as my adventure buddy!

How do you guys hang out most of the time?

If we’re not taking naps together, you’ll usually find us skating and taking a walk in the park! She loves anything cold, so our last stop before heading home is usually the ice cream man!

If you could teach your dog anything, what would it be?

I’d teach Tika how to talk! It would take our friendship to a whole new level. (Laughs)

If your dog could talk, how would it describe its human?

I think she’d describe me as restless. There’d be days when I’d leave the house in the wee hours to climb up a peak and her face would be full of wonder at where I was going. Not to mention, whining a little bit to get in the car with me!

SAM NEPOMUCENO

Account Officer

Canine Companions: Oatmeal, Golden Retriever; Crinkle, Mini Schnauzer; Tofu, Corgi; Chocnut, Chow Chow

Hey, Sam! What have you been busy with lately?

Aside, from work, I really enjoy training in martial arts and want to compete again. I also got into gymnastics recently and I’m working on holding a handstand.

How do you and your dogs hang out most of the time?

We hang out in our condo watching TV. Crinkle is clingy so she’ll sit on our laps while the corgi invites us to play fetch. Oatmeal and Chocnut have their own areas in the house where they like to sleep.

If you could teach your dog anything, what would it be?

I’d teach my dogs to fly if I could. I’d be the only person with flying dogs.

If your dog could talk, how would it describe its human?

If my dogs could talk they’d probably describe me as that annoying guy who wakes them up just to pet them.

ADAM JAMES

Commercial Model

Canine Companions: Jack-Jack, Cocker Spaniel; Dash, Yorkshire Terrier-Poodle

Hey, Adam! How do you and your dogs hang out most of the time?

Most of the time we hang out watching old Pinoy Big Brother episodes, going on morning walks, or cuddling while I do some paperwork.

How would they describe their human?

If my dogs could talk they would say, “He is such a great guy who truly loves and cares for us. Also, incredibly devoted and the fact that he brought us all the way from San Francisco to be here with him is a testament to that.”

And if you could teach them anything, what would it be?

Definitely how to cook so I could finally get some help in the kitchen while I’m making dinner. If I ever started a restaurant, they would be my little sous chefs! (Laughs)
